Happy birthday, America!
It is the 235th anniversary of America's declaration of Independence.
Yes, the actual signing of the document didn't start until August of 1776 and not completed until
November of that year, a dream, an idea, a goal had started. It wasn't until 1783 that England
finally accepted United State's independence, the dream had already spread out.
We had in one voice had told our government that we do not approve what they are doing, and
that we can govern ourselves better. We were a group of people, in order to form a more perfect
union decided that as a group of equals, we can provide for our own welfare.
And for about 100 years, we did mostly that.
With the conclusion of the Civil War, again we became servants of the bigger government. We
started to think that the Federal Government is superior to State Governments or even local
governments. We stopped being United States of America and started the Federal Government
of America.
We are living in Lincoln's America, not Washington's.
Another 135 more years later, we have the Federal Government making more demands of it's
citizens than ever before. Debt-ceiling, Bail-outs, Social-Security, Welfare system, Medicare,
Government Education, Minimum-Wages... The list goes on and on. The government is more
and more involved in our lives. This is freedom?
Thank you Washington, Jefferson, Franklin and Adams for giving us the dream.
I hope we haven't disappointed you in what we have done to your dreams.
